OPENING DAY NOVEMBER 22nd, 2008!!!!! WE HAVE SNOW!!!

Come join us for Little Bear Creek Tree Farm's 50th Anniversary Celebration! Check back often for more details!

Stepping Back In Time....

Visiting the tree farm is like stepping back to a simpler time. We strive to provide an atmosphere that allows families to spend time together and create memories that will last for generations. It must be working because several of our customers and their families are third generation, and many more of our customers are second generation patrons. Little Bear Creek Tree Farm is located in the Sierra foothill community of Alta approximately 12 miles East of Colfax, and 40 miles West of Truckee on Interstate 80. (Sacramento and Reno are just over an hour away.)

We have preserved the look and feel of the tree farm just as it was in the 1950's. Little Bear Creek Tree Farm has restored several of the original 1950's era Willys Jeeps that transport you through our forest up where you can choose and cut your own tree. After selecting the "perfect" tree, you can either hike back down the hill or catch a ride on another Jeep. Which jeep will it be? Green? Yellow? Red? Orange? When you arrive back at the bottom of the hill, you will be greeted by friendly, courteous staff that can net your tree for you and carry it to your car or truck. No need to hurry though because you may want to feed the fish in our trout pond, have a picnic on our newly planted grass area, watch the water wheel spin and lose yourself in the events of the day; hike along the rushing creek, and play with your kids on the world's longest log see-saw (so we're told!). No visit would be complete without seeing our gift shoppe! This year's theme is "White Christmas" and you will find all sorts of fine gifts, ornaments and crafts created by local artisans. While shopping you may notice the aroma of hot chocolate, cider, cookies, brownies and fudge that fills the air. These treats are made exclusively for the tree farm. If it's cold outside, don't worry! Gather your friends and family around the warm and crackling campfire!

Many of you have been to the tree farm before or may be visiting us for the first time. Regardless, we await the thrill of helping to create a family tradition that will bring you years of enjoyment (and us too!).  Even though we recently purchased the farm, our families have been coming to this tree farm since our kids were very young. Now the chance to share our experiences and memories with you, brings us great joy!
